With slicks and 6000rpm launches, probably 350-400hp tops. Street tires, normal driving, occasional trip to the drag strip (without the 6000rpm launches), they'll hold up to over 400hp no problem. I've heard of a few cases of thrown rods on L67's but none of them seemed to be from high hp, more than likely an engine defect.I want to upgrade to a crate motor with just over 400 hp and 400 ft-lbs of torque, 700R4 trans, and VBP suspension but I want to make sure the stock rearend can handle that power. I have read on this forum, 600 hp with street tires, 400 with slicks. If the rearend is in good shape. He has the weaker 80-82 rear end.

I've heard of people break them at 500hp or so but as long as you have a bigger trans cooler and watch your temps it'll last a long time.
