I'm starting as a level 3 horizon walker ranger and am considering to multiclass along the way as a rune knight fighter. I think this would be a fun, interesting build, but have no idea yet how it is mechanically going to work out.The Horizon Walker 5e concentrates on Dexterity, but you can make a Strength build work. The constitution is essential if you plan on doing a melee battle. At the same time, Ranged characters can utilize Intelligence to produce their DCs higher. Banish whoever doesn’t belong, with almost guaranteed benefits!

At higher levels, horizon walker is going to give you abilities that make make what echo knight gives you entirely mechanically redundant. I strongly encourage you to find a new ranger to go with your echo knight or to drop the echo knight entirely from your horizon walker. I played with a Sharpshooter Horizon Walker in a 1-17 Tyranny of Dragons campaign, and that motherfucker was a goddamn problem for enemies in combat. While his Bonus Action economy could get a little jammed up, he could hang damage on people like nothing else, and between getting Winged Boots early on, mobility spells, and a d10 Hit Die, he was hard to pin down and meaningfully damage even if ...
Greatsword just works for Horizon Walker. If you want to optimize for highest sustained single target damage, you're going to multiclass out of horizon walker at level 5. Whether you multiclass out or not, ranged is going to be better damage. Get sharpshooter and crossbow expert feats, and get yourself a hand crossbow.
At level 5 you get 2d12 + 2d8 + 34 assuming cast summon beast, use planar warrior, and make 2 sharpshooter musket attacks. (average of 56). That's better then crossbow expert start of 2d6 + 1d4 + 6 assuming 2 attacks from crossbow and Favored foe (average of 15.5).
