Remove that, unhook the cable from the throttle linkage and unscrew the cable from the carb. The choke you just unscrew the plastic nut from the carb and it all pulls out. The carb heater will unplug at the wiring harness. Just follow the wires back to the connector. Plug on a car typically should be brownish. I think these might run more on the blackish mark, but if it's a real dark black it would indicate it is running rich which could explain the back fire. Definately shouldn't be wet (sign of plug fouling). As for the filter.

One other day with only Daddy on the quad and riding with a big group I only got 70kms out of that tank, but was riding hard.

The air mixture screw is located at the front/bottom/center of the carb. It takes small hands or a special screw driver to adjust it. 1 1/4 pipe IMO is way to small and it needs to be 1 1/2 or 1/2 plumbed to a 2in pipe but again depends on location. The fuel strainer on the Rubicon & 350 Rancher is on the fuel pipe inside the fuel tank .. To clean/check it you have to remove the 2 bolts holding the petcock on the bottom of the fuel tank .. The fuel strainer on a TRX500 Foreman is inside the (brass) fuel hose pipe on the carb.

A rough idle will almost never be caused by a restricted fuel filter. At idle the engine is using a small amount of fuel. If the filter can pass enough fuel for the engine to run at higher rpm, it will certainly pass enough for operation at idle. I think I would investigate on other options. My 2020 Honda Foreman TRX 520fe2 will not start after 2-4 hours on a trip. If I leave it for a couple of hours it will then start. Dealer said " Checked air filter, valves, fuel pressure" . If you just want to drain old gas then just pop the line off at the carb but make sure to put it on reserve so it drains completely. 2006 Foreman 4x4 500s.
