Not sure how popular this opinion is, but as someone who just started playing Gloomhaven, I really appreciate the alternate builds. Honestly, nothing against the creator of the original Cragheart guide, as I'm sure it suits a lot of players, but the alt build is much more interesting to me (just my opinion) than another ranged build.

I played a cragheart to level 9 and it pretty much went how you've imagined. Started out ranged, then became heavily obstacle focused, and ended up being a melee character. Creating obstacles for true damage and then pushing enemys into one with heaving swing, while destroying another adjacent for +3 made for some pretty high DPS. When playing as tanky build the cards that damage things when moving are good and I didn't miss the weak bottom heal as I still had rumbling advance for a big heal, and a potion. Equipment wise I have the hide armour (best to wait til you get the ignore negative armour effects perk to avoid the two -1 cards), heater shield, healing potion and ... Either way, Cragheart needs jump and since you want the +2 move boots, thats where you put it, on a Move 4. Finally for perks, just swap -1's for +1s as your first 3 picks.
