Here in Wyoming most locals prefer 41 magnum as a minimum revolver caliber. The 10mm pistol is getting more traction all the time. Hard cast bullets are the norm in all handguns for large bear. You can get more rounds off with a pistol. A glock in 10mm loaded with 200 gr hard cast would be my recommendation along with plenty of range time.
