The short answer is that Rick isn't really political. He's apolitical, he has a compulsive desire to be edgy and he's very mentally ill. Those three ingredients together tend to make a person come off as pretty reactionary. I'm friends with him on Facebook, and he's made some seriously shitty, highly racist posts.
