The 180S short upper is coming out soon and it is significantly less expensive than any of the MCX uppers, and they seem to be the two most viable options for an AR15 that can fire with the stock folded. I'm currently running a Virtus upper on a Spear lower, works great. However you will still need an MCX trigger with a Virtus upper. Only way around that is either a "G" stamped safety latch for the BCG (allows you to run normal AR triggers), or a Geissele SSAE MCX trigger.

MCX is the current hot thing and with government contracts will likely be the hot thing for awhile. In recent years the 516 could be bought as an upper for no more than half (or less) of what a MCX upper would sell for.
