physical damage will suffer if u use a dc set. combining spell and physical damage splits your reaper points across 3 trees instead of 2. In heroics abd early epics its totally possible to have workable dcs in ranged sets, as i have done it (i have a lot of past lives though). Imo wizard 18/2 inquis is best heroic.

Plus necro etc. You can also build a fleshy wiz. and get by with Primal and Exaulted Angel on the sides with Draconic. There's several ways to do the same thing. Some folks prefer Majister.
