There are drastic differences. Wildcat, Valravn, Blade and Blunt, Ultimate Combat, and Valhalla Combat all work and feel substantially different from one another. You can read the mod descriptions to learn the basics, but you need to try them in game to actually see how they make combat more or less enjoyable for you.

The Ultimate Dodge Mod is the best way (that I know of) to get a smooth dodge—if by smooth, we mean nonscripted and instant. I actually use this with cgo, just because the CGO dodge roll is a little much. It also lets you remap your stealth ... Basically just run Nemesis and dont install FNIS. I switched from FNIS to Nemesis mid save and already had ALLGUD. I added combat gameplay overhaul and a few other Nemesis only animation mods and had no problems at all. You can use FNIS with CGO it says that it conflicts but it actually doesnt, this is from recent experimentation.

Combat Gameplay Overhaul introduces so many interesting mechanics, although compatibility for other behavior patches seemed impossible. CGO lite is a behavior patch to retain some of the features while removing some hard coded behavioral edits such as jump attacks to ensure compatibility with other modular behavior patches.So im guessing I just ignore the no data directory warning, tick the box for the partial patch in the left pane, untick the CGO mod, then run nemesis like normal. Use TK Dodge RE and select "step dodge" in the config. I coulda sworn CGO has an option for that in the MCM, but I don't have Skyrim installed atm. Any dodge will work better in third person. Get used to this idea. In third person you are seeing beyond and in the back of your char. So you can control him better.
There are imo two schools of though for tour massive behavior overhaul. MCO + Animation pack (a lot of these mods were made with this in mind) Adds combos, non-linear movesets, chainable power attacks, and better attack transitions.
