Once SQ42 single players is released we should see alot more ships and races appear in SC along with more gameplay. As others have said there is a law system in place to protect you, the player that killed you would have received a crime stat for killing you and will be hunted by both NPCs and player bounty hunters. If they are killed they go to jail and sentences can be upwards of 12 hours in prison for serial offenders.
